Overview

This project aimed to design a simple yet powerful notes-making app to help users capture, organize, and revisit their ideas seamlessly. The goal was to reduce friction in note creation and make the experience visually clean, intuitive, and easy to navigate.

Problem / Challenge

Many existing note-taking apps are cluttered, have steep learning curves, or lack features that support quick, organized capturing of ideas. Users often struggle to find previously saved notes or get distracted by unnecessary features.

The challenge was to build a minimal yet functional app that simplifies the process of creating, categorizing, and retrieving notes while remaining visually lightweight.

Research & Discovery

• Conducted a user survey to understand current note-taking habits and pain points.

• Analyzed competitors like Google Keep, Evernote, and Notion to identify gaps and opportunities.

• Created user personas to represent different target groups (students, professionals, content creators).

• Defined core user needs: fast creation, organized categorization, and distraction-free reading.

Design Process & My Role

• Defined the information architecture and created a user flow to visualize task paths like note creation, editing, and categorization.

• Designed low-fidelity wireframes to validate layout and flow early with users and stakeholders.

• Developed high-fidelity UI screens focusing on minimalism, clear hierarchy, and mobile-first design principles.

• Created reusable design components for consistency and scalability.

• Led iterative design reviews with mentors and peers to refine usability and aesthetics.

Solution

• A clean and distraction-free home interface for quickly viewing and accessing notes.

• Color-coded categories and tags to help users organize their content effortlessly.

• Quick add and search features for seamless note creation and retrieval.

• Minimal UI with clear typography and spacing to reduce cognitive load.

• Offline-first approach to ensure reliability in any situation.

The app design achieved a balance between functionality and simplicity, providing users with an intuitive experience for capturing and managing their thoughts.

Impact

• Reduced steps required to create a note from 4 to 2.

• Improved content discoverability through color-coded categories.
